About:

"Hierarchies of race and gender collide in this AfroSurreal tale of an enslaved girl who dares to follow her own instincts on an island plantation." The play takes place during a pre-emancipation time on an island in the Caribbean. Using modern language and events of the past, Finch creates a world that reflects the AfroSurreal concept that everything is happening in the past, present, and future. The costumes represent period garments while using modern styling to make them current. Period is a facade for reality.
